The Japan Society of Clinical Oncology (JSCO) is the most prominent Japanese organisation for clinical oncology and promotes a multidisciplinary approach in cancer treatment and care. Multidisciplinarity is central in the European CanCer Organisation ECCO. ECCO is striving for multidisciplinarity by integrating all professions to achieve the best possible patient outcomes, because every cancer patient deserves the best. ECCO takes into consideration the trends that impact on cancer, the complexity of the disease, and the specificity of each cancer patient. ECCO organises, similar to JSCO, conferences for professionals in oncology to present the latest in science to achieve precision diagnosis and treatment for cancer patients. One of the important initiatives fully supported by ECCO is EURECCA, a quality improvement project, which is short for European Registration of Cancer Care. Registry of cancer care is imperative for quality assurance and has perceived improvements in patient outcomes, such as mortality and survival. National and regional audit structures have accomplished excellent results. However, differences in outcome between European countries remain. By developing a European audit registry, EURECCA aims to reduce systematic variance by standardising and harmonising cancer care in Europe. Quality assurance and transparency benefits patients with cancer and therefore, intercontinental benchmarking of cancer care could be a future aim of JSCO and ECCO collaboration with exchange of newest developments in research and care.
